POT OSP License

In India, a Public Mobile Radio Trunking Service (PMRTS) or Public Mobile Radio Trunked Service (PMRTS) is commonly known as the "POT" (Public Operator Telephone) service. The "OSP" (Other Service Provider) license is required for entities that provide certain types of communication services, including the POT service.

OSP refers to companies that offer services other than basic telecom services and are regulated by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). These services include call centers, business process outsourcing (BPO) services, telebanking, telemedicine, and other IT-enabled services that use telecom resources.

The POT OSP license allows entities to provide the POT service, which is a two-way communication service using radio frequency (RF) spectrum, typically used for two-way radio communication between dispatchers and mobile users, like in the case of taxi services or other fleet management operations.

To obtain a POT OSP license in India, the entity must fulfill certain eligibility criteria and comply with the regulations set by the DoT. The process involves the following steps:

  1. Application Submission: The entity needs to submit an application for the POT OSP license to the DoT along with the required documents.

  2. Technical and Financial Requirements: The entity must meet the technical and financial criteria specified by the DoT for the POT service.

  3. Security Clearance: The entity and its promoters need to undergo security clearance from the appropriate authorities.

  4. License Fee: The entity must pay the prescribed license fee to the DoT.

  5. Verification and Approval: The DoT will verify the application and conduct necessary inspections before granting the POT OSP license.

  6. License Issuance: Once all requirements are met, the DoT will issue the POT OSP license to the entity.

It is essential for entities offering POT services to obtain the necessary OSP license and adhere to the terms and conditions of the license. Non-compliance with the regulations can lead to penalties and legal consequences.
